House of Hearts Network Foundation Leadership Attends 2026 Youth and AI Policy Summit at the United Nations

As part of the 2026 Youth and AI Policy Summit at United Nations Headquarters in New York City, House of Hearts Network Foundation President Jeremiah La’Porte participated in the “AI, Human Rights, Peace and Security” panel, contributing a youth-centered perspective to discussions on artificial intelligence, institutional accountability, and the consequences of emerging technologies for public systems.

The panel brought together perspectives from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, the United Nations Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Department of Peace Operations, and the Maxum Foundation. The discussion examined the intersection of artificial intelligence with human rights, peace, security, and the responsibilities of institutions navigating rapid technological change.

President La’Porte raised concerns about the implications of unregulated and insufficiently guided AI use within educational environments, emphasizing the risk of learning deficits when students and institutions adopt emerging technologies without clear standards or appropriate guardrails. His remarks highlighted the need to protect students’ ability to develop independent reasoning, critical thinking, and foundational academic skills while ensuring that technological innovation remains accountable to the communities it serves.

Trustee Harsh Roy reinforced these concerns, emphasizing the importance of proactive governance and the risks of allowing public institutions to become dependent on technologies before establishing adequate oversight. Their shared position called for policymakers to anticipate potential harms rather than rely on reactive interventions after educational and institutional challenges have already emerged.

La’Porte’s participation brought the perspective of a youth-serving nonprofit leader into an international policy discussion, connecting questions of AI governance and human rights to the everyday experiences of students and the institutions responsible for their development.

The Foundation maintains that AI policy must be developed alongside technological innovation, with particular attention to educational integrity, human rights, transparency, and accountability. For young people, these considerations are not abstract policy questions; they will directly influence how future generations learn, work, participate in civic life, and interact with public institutions.

The Foundation’s participation reflects its commitment to ensuring that youth perspectives are included in consequential policy discussions and that emerging technologies are governed in ways that strengthen, rather than compromise, the systems designed to serve the public.
